Announcing the first recipients of the Cadillac Fairview Indigenous Bursary

This award has been distributed to First Nation, Inuit and Métis students who are attending post-secondary institutions in Ontario.

As previously shared in June 2022, CF committed $100,000 to the Cadillac Fairview Indigenous Bursary, which will be allocated through five $5,000 bursaries granted by Indspire, this will open in a new tab annually until 2025. This award, which is sponsored by CF Sherway Gardens, CF Markville, CF Toronto Eaton Centre, Yonge Corporate Centre, RBC Centre and Simcoe Place, has been distributed to First Nation, Inuit and Métis students who are attending post-secondary institutions in Ontario. And this year, thanks to the matching donations from the Government of Canada, we’re pleased to be able to award ten bursaries for 2023. Today we’re proud to share some of the names of the 2023 recipients of the Bursary Awards and their stories. Cheyanne Thomas Couchiching Sociology, PHD Carleton University Awarded: $5,000 “Finding out I am the recipient of a bursary like this reminds me of the hard work it took to get here, gives me a sense of pride that others recognize my hard work, and makes me feel humble that I am part of a large and supportive community. My journey throughout education has been long with challenges, but knowing others find my journey inspiring and worthy of merit keeps me focused on reaching my goals.” “It’s incredible to see such well deserving students being given even more opportunities to excel in their studies, and we wish them every success with their educational endeavors.” - Kelly Vieira, General Manager, CF Markville. Sophie Francuz Métis Nation of Ontario | Nation métisse de l'Ontario Bachelor Degree, Education Brock University Awarded: $5,000 “My ability to accept this scholarship from Cadillac Fairview makes me proud, as they are dedicated to having a positive influence on Indigenous students like myself. They are providing me with the opportunity to succeed in the future. I aspire that one day I can give back in a similar way since what they accomplish and what they advocate for is so motivating”. “It’s inspiring to hear from recipients of this bursary, and learn first hand, about the impact that it’s making in their lives.
