Always aiming higher, Quintin approaches every maintenance task with a commitment to operational excellence.

At CF Chinook Centre, Maintenance Operator Quintin Tampis is known as the “jack of all trades.” Fixing things is simply what he does— both at work and home.

“Even when I’m not working, I’m the guy my friends call for help. It feels great to take on a task from start to finish, and I love to see the expressions of gratitude after a job well done,” he says. This drive to help others, combined with his extensive knowledge of facility systems, drives Quintin to take on new challenges in his role, a position he’s held for over two years.

“We are such a close-knit team that there is nothing I wouldn’t do for my colleagues in Operations and across Cadillac Fairview (CF) as a whole,” he says.

Always aiming higher, Quintin approaches every maintenance task with a commitment to operational excellence. When a large vacant space, inadvertently used for storage, was needed for a retail client, Quintin took it upon himself to clean and organize it little by little each day for a week. Thanks to his diligent work, the team was able to turn over the space to the client without delays.

Operations teams play an important role in major tenant activations, preparing spaces before, during and after they wrap. In 2024, CF Chinook Centre had an opportunity to bring in a one-of-a-kind immersive art experience “Mirror Mirror,” for visitors to enjoy a sensory exploration. The activation was to be held in a large retail space that organizers needed access to far in advance of the official launch date. To ensure safe, secure access for the client, Quintin executed a full replacement of a man door, rather than replacing locks and keys and delaying access further. His strategic operations decision helped put the tenant first, cutting back on wait times and resources spent.

“Operations is not a single-person job,” he says. “Every shift, we collaborate as a team across CF departments and with our clients to make sure the job is done and done well.”

Based in Calgary, one of the most important events for the CF Chinook Centre team is the Calgary Stampede pancake breakfast which celebrated its 65th anniversary this year. For Quintin and team, this means prepping the entire space, working forklifts, setting up grills, and ensuring food and drinking water are available. This year, the team achieved an ambitious goal: securing the Guinness World Records title for Most Pancakes Served, an accomplishment that would not have been possible without Quintin and his team's logistical support.

From everyday maintenance to feeding thousands of people, Quintin and the operations team embrace new challenges every day. Quintin serves as a steady hand and a leader by example always ready to collaborate with CF teammates in all areas, from administration and security to cleaning staff and clients. To his team at CF Chinook Centre, Quintin Tampis is more than a “king of all trades,” he is the heart and soul of the operations team.
